Odaboh ("we," "us," or "our") operates a digital memorial and public health awareness platform. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Odaboh, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and a password (stored only as a securely hashed value — we never store or have access to your actual password).

Memorial content

Information you choose to add to a memorial page, including the deceased's name, dates, country of origin, biography, photos, cause-of-death category, and any custom text you provide.

Payment information

Payments for premium features and digital gifts are processed by Stripe. We do not collect or store your card number or other full payment card details — Stripe handles that directly and shares with us only what's needed to confirm a payment (such as the amount and a transaction reference).

Usage information

We may collect basic technical information such as browser type, general location (e.g. country/region), and how you interact with the site, to help us keep it working reliably and improve it over time.

2. Cause-of-Death & Sensitive Information

Odaboh's mission centers on transforming grief into public health awareness. When you create a memorial, you choose a cause-of-death category, and you may optionally mark it as anonymous.

• If you do not mark it anonymous, the cause of death is shown publicly on that memorial page, exactly as you'd choose to share it in an obituary.
• If you mark it anonymous, the specific cause is hidden from public view on the memorial page itself, but the category (e.g. "Cardiovascular/Stroke") may still be included in aggregated, non-identifying public health statistics — never tied to the deceased's name or your account.

We share only aggregated, anonymized cause-of-death statistics — never individual records — with public health researchers and NGOs working to improve health outcomes in Black and African communities. This aggregated data cannot be traced back to a specific memorial, family, or individual.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To create and maintain your account and memorial pages
• To process payments for premium features and digital condolence gifts
• To send you account-related emails (welcome messages, approval status)
• To notify our admin team when a new account needs review and approval
• To generate anonymized public health insights, as described above
• To maintain the security and integrity of the platform

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on trusted third-party services to operate Odaboh. Each processes only the data necessary for its function:

• Stripe — payment processing for premium upgrades and digital gifts
• Supabase — our database and photo/gallery storage
• Resend — sending account and notification emails
• Vercel — website hosting and infrastructure

These providers are contractually and technically restricted from using your data for any purpose other than providing their service to us.

5. Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you securely logged in and remember your session. We do not currently use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

6. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:

• With the service providers listed above, to operate the platform
• As aggregated, anonymized health statistics, as described in Section 2
• If required by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the public

7. Data Retention

We retain your account and memorial information for as long as your account is active. If you delete a memorial or your account, the associated content and photos are permanently removed from our active systems, other than aggregated anonymized statistics that can no longer be traced back to you.

8. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and associated content
• Mark a memorial's cause of death as anonymous at any time

9. Children's Privacy

Odaboh is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

10. International Users

Odaboh serves families across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and West Africa. Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than your own, including the United States, by us or our service providers listed above.

11. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted password storage and secure, access-controlled infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
